TENNIS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, January 13. The All England Club has engaged Karel Kozeluh to coach the British tennis players at Wimbledon for six weeks, beginning April. Karel Kozeluh won the French pi'ofessional tennis championship at Nice, defeating Naduch, 6/3, ’6/2, 6/4, who eliminated Burke (holder) in the se-mi-final. MOTORING. LONDON, January 12. The motorist, Marchand claims the world’s record for ten'miles, averaging 133.53 miles hourly. KOTUKU SPORTS. A first-class programme has been drawn up for the annual sports at Kotuku on February 4. The events comprise a Maiden Handicap Chop, 12in log, red pine, of £5 ; Underhand Handicap Chop, Win. log, red pine, £3O; Upright Handicap Chop, 12in. log, red pine, £2O; Double-hand Saw, 20in. log, white pine, £l2; Single-hand Saw, 15in. log, red pine, £4. Full particulars of each event are outlined in the advertisement appearing in this issue. A gold medal will be presented to the competitor gaining most points in chopping and sawing events, Maiden Chop not included, the points being awarded on a 3,2,1 basis. Several other events will also be included in the programme, full particulars for which can be obtained from the secretary, J. Butcher, Kotuku. Nominations will close on January 24, and the handicaps will be declared on January 28. The nominations must include a list of the competitor’s performances during the past year or if none dining that period the last three starts must be mentioned. A ball will be held in the evening. The express train to and from Christchurch will stop at Kotuku on the day of the sports. CYCLE ROAD RACE. . A handicap cycle road race will be held under the auspices of the Karoro Sports Club on January 28 at 3 p.m. from the Australasian Hotel to Gladstone and back. The first prize is £3, and the second a trophy. Nominations close with F. A. Hughes, box 37, Greymouth, on January 21.
