SWIMMING
CARNIVAL AT BATHS. . On Wednesday next, commencing at 7 p.m., the first swimming carnival of the season will be held in the Municipal Baths. A first-class programme has been drawn up, which comprises Men’s Dash Handicap (33 1-3 yards), Girls’ Handicap, under 15 years, (33 1-3 yards), Boys’ Handicap (33 1-3 yards), Men’s Handicap (66 2-3 yards)-, Ladies’ Handicap (33 1-3 yards), Heavy Weight Championship, Ladies’ Diving and Men’s Diving. Nominations for these events close to-night, and the handicaps will be declared on Monday. The swiming should provide an excellent, evening’s sport, and the inaugural carnival in Greymouth’s splendid swimming baths promises to prove highly successful. » CHILDREN’S PLAYGROUND. (To the Editor.) Sir, —I trust the deputation from the Swimming Club, when meeting the Borough Council, in regard to the Bath, will point out the mistake of admitting all children free, as they are making it a playground, many not using the bath but amusing themselves in endeavouring to push others in and generally making a nuisance of themselves. A small charge for admission would put a stop to this practise. —Yours etc., DIVER.
