SHIPPING SETTLEMENT
MEN EAGER TO WORK. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) SYDNEY, January 13. Seamen rushed the shipping master’s office, anxious to resume work on the strike-affected ships, and the companies announced a long list of immediate, and Inter-State sailings. The seamen still hope that the owners will not only agree to a conference, but they will meet the men half way in a settlement of the differences regarding the holding of irregular stop-work meetings. MELBOURNE STILL IDLE SYDNEY, January 14. There has been a general resumption of work by seamen at all ports except Melbourne, where it is stated no official report was received from the headquarters of the union. Some vessels will be idle for some Time, yet the order of sailings may fit in with the time table. All cargo vessels will be •manned immediately.
