The members of Fred Smith’s orchestra arrived yesterday, . an.d are staying at the Hotel Dominion.
The Governor-General, Sir Chas. Fergusson and Lady Alice Fergusson, arrived in Dunedin yesterday afternoon, and were met by the Mayor and Mayoress. The visit is unofficial. They will leave for Southland on Saturday morning.—Press Assn.

A cablegram from Rome stated that King Amanullah of Afghanistan' visited the Pope. Contrary to custom he did not kneel nor kiss the Pope s hand, but merely bowed deeply. The Pope presented him with an autographed portrait, and conferred the Order of the Golden Spur.
At last night’s meeting of the Grey Borough Council the Deputy-Mayor, Mr Jas. O’Brien conveyed the good wishes and congratulations of the Council to the Mayor (Mr J. W. Greenslade) on his recent marriage. The Mayor thanked Cr. O’Brien and the members of the Council for their good wishes. He also thanked Cr. O’Brien for his work as Deputy-Mayor in the Mayor’s absence. His holiday had been happy and auspicious, and he felt that Mrs Greenslade would be of great assistance to him in carrying out his civic duties.
