GREYMOUTH. JUBILEE (Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, Dec. 10. A well attended meeting of members of local bodies and citizens generally was held in the Town Hall last evening to meet representatives of the Greymouth Jubilee Committee and to discuss arrangements for co-operating with Greymouth in making every effort to make the celebrations a huge success. The Mayor (Mr. G. Perry) presided, and expressed pleasure at meeting the representatives of Greymouth and extended them a cordial welcome. The Mayor of Greymouth, Mr. J. W. Greenslade, asked for the hearty support of the citizens of Hokitika and Westland generally at the same time explaining the objects of the celebrations. He pointed out that Jubilee was of great interest not only to the people of Greymouth, but also to a great number of people throughout Westland who were citizens of Greymouth in the early years. He stressed the great benefit that would accrue to both towns by the influx of visitors that would take place at that time, and that as the Franz Josef Glacier was specially featured in the Jubilee Booklet, Hokitika wouuld materially benefit as the “hopping off” town of the visitors who would pay a visit to that part of Westland. The Committee were also making arrangements for the transport of the school children to visit the warships that would visit Greymouth during Jubilee Week.

The Hon. H. L. Michel M.D.C., Mr. Murdoch (Chairman of Westland C. Council), promised to give their hearty support to any scheme that would be devised for the furtherance of the celebrations.

It was decided that all present be formed - into a committee with power to add to their number. A small executive consisting of Mr. G. Perry (Chairman), Messrs Evans and Cole (secretaries), Mr. W. .Jeffries, Dr. Tiechelmann, Mr. Murdoch and H. L. Michel were appointed to deal with any matters of urgency that may arise. It was mentioned that Hokitika possessed several exhibits of historical interest that could be lent to the museum at Greymouth. Great interest was taken in a grouped picture of photographs of the first Provincial Council of Westland which is hanging in the Town Hall, and it was suggested that a copy of same be taken and retained in Greymouth. As a historical record, it was invaluable as it was the only one of its kind in existence. After a general discussion, Mr. Greenslade thanked all present for the attendance and for the hearty enthusiasm shown. He said that Greymouth would be only too pleased to reciprocate at any time that Hokitika requested their co-operation in anything for the advancement of the district.
