DEATH ON LAWN

SEQUEL TO LOVE AFFAIR. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 9. An inquest was opened to-day on the death of John Dunnett, of Temuka, who was found outside the front door of the residence of Mrs Manson, Peterborough Street, on Wednesday evening. According to the evidence, deceased was a single man, a returned soldier, and had lived on his mother’s farm near Temuka. He left the farm on Saturday for Timaru. His health had not been good since the war, owing to the effects of gas. He had appeared miserable and depressed of late, and he had left a note to his brother, which was written on a piece of paper with poison labels pasted on the back. Ena Robertson, waitress, stated that until recently she had been engaged to deceased. They had had no quarrel and had been together earlier on Wednesday evening. Dunett had taken her to Mrs Manson’s, where she lived, and gave no indication of not being normal. Later she opened the front door, in answer to a knock, and found deceased lying on the lawn. His heart was beating, but he was unconscious. _ . The medical evidence was to the effect that there were no signs of bodily injury, oi' that death was causad by poisoning. The inquest was adjourned.
