BULLETS MADE OF SOAP.
SYDNEY, November 16.
A man, who gave the name of Alphonsus Clune, of Reserve Street, Alexandria, but would give the police no further particulars, was shot in the left eye in the bar of the Castlereagh Hotel, city, shortly after 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon. His assail- \
ant escaped. Eye-witnesses informed the police that the man was having a drink, when a man entered. After a few words had passed between the two, a revolver was produced, and shots were fired. The armed man then rushed from the hotel, pursued by a number of meh. Dashing into Elizabeth Street, he boarded a tram and es'eaped. Onlookers are convinced that the bullets fired were made of soap, and the police were inclined to treat this suggestion seriously, on acount of the nature of the wounds. At the Redfern police station, late last night, Norman McDonald was charged with having shot at a. man whose name is believed to he Clune, with intent to murder.
