INDIAN COMMISSION
LORDS APPROVE ENQUIRY. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, November 25. In the Lords, Lord. Birkenhead, moving the Indian Commission resolution, pointed out that. Messrs Walsh and Attlee (Labour ) were appointed after discussion with Mr. MacDonald. Lord Birkenhead emphasised that the purpose of the Commission was to submit an independent report to Parliament, so it was not desirable to associate Indians? with..the Commission, but to rely on men without pre-com-mitments of any kind. It would have been necessary to appoint at least 20 Commissioners in order to represent the sections of Indian opinion. Lord Reading strongly supported the Commission ,and warned Indians of the danger of persisting in the boycott'. Lord Chelmsford similarly spoke, adding there was nd intention of shutting Indians from full expression of their views.
The resolution was carried without division.
