AMUSEMENTS

OPERA HOUSE.

A thrilling airplane crash —an unusual trip through Couey Island’s famous Luna Park, showing the big amusement place from the front end of a chute-the-chute and a roller-coast-er—excellent cast of young play-ers—-settings that are far from ordinary and some of the most unique camera shots that have ever been shown on the screen. Those are among the outstanding features of “Just Another Blonde,” which comes to the Opera House to-night.

Appearing as a charming divorcee, who displays a remarkable interest in her former husband’s matrimonial prospects, Priscilla Dean scores an emphatic hit in “Forbidden Waters,” at the Opera House to-night. TOWN HALL—SATURDAY. Coming to the Town Hall on Saturday matinee and night, will be Buck Jones in his latest thriller “30 Below Zero.” . Don’t miss .this one. It’s great! McKANE’S HALL. At McKane’s Hall, Cobden,. to-night another splendid picture programme will be shown the main attraction will be “Fascinating Youth,” a real good comedy drama that will please one and all. THE ENGLISH FUTURISTS It will be good news to theatregoers of the Dominion that the English Futurists will once again visit us after an absence of nearly two years. Since their last appearance here Mr. Cyril Northcote has been fortunate in linking up with Mr. Joe Brennan who will head the comedy side. This has considerably strengthened an already strong combination making it second to none of any similar type of entertainment. Mr. Joe Brennan has recently returned from the United Kingdom with the result that the N.Z. audiences will be regaled with a feast of comedy of the most up-to-date type and only a few weeks after it is fresh from the laughs of a London public. The dressing and scenery of the new company surpasses by a long way that of the previous visit of the Futurists who were then noted for the artistic style in which they presented their entertainment. An effort has been made to keep the entertainment as much on the comedy side as possible and comedy after comedy, laugh after laugh follow each other with bewildering rapidity. Anyone who has seen Mr. Joe Brennan as the “Shriek of Araby” has seen the funniest sight of a lifetime. In addition to a host of newcomers, the company includes old members of the Futurists well and favourably known to the N.Z. theatregoers. They include, G. W. Desmond (comedian and dancer), Ira Vansla, Gus Dawson, Cyril Northcote and George Correlli (operatic tenor). On account of Australian bookings the visit of this company to N.Z. will be limited to a short season. The company will appear to-morrow evening at the Opera House.

THE HAWAIIANS. More than two years ago Mr. E. J. Carroll caused a sensation in the theatrical world by engaging Kaai’s Hawaiian Troubadours for a long tour of Australia and New Zealand. There were many who predicted failure, but as it happens the tour has been a phenomenal success. Greymouth music lovers will be pleased to know that Mt. Kaai and his company of talented Hawaiians are appearing with their new programme at the Opera House for one night only, Wednesday November 30. It does not matter much whether you take your wife or your conscience—or both —to Honolulu. There are charms in the tropical moonlight and the eyes of the Hula Hula girls which have the gentle intoxication of the kava drink and make you forget all encumbrances, even the bank overdraft. Better a beachcomber in the Pacific than a burr cutter on the West Coast. Anyhow, that’s the idea you get from these merry Islanders, who nightly bring a few hours of Hawaiian gladness, music and warmth to New Zealand audi ences. The box plan is now open at Webley’s. SALVATION ARMY. The Sunday School Anniversary will be celebrated at the Salvation Army Hall this coming Sunday and Monday, when all the children, LifeSaving Guards, Sunbeams, Young People's Band, Senior Band, and Songsters are united to supply sweet music and song. Major Powick from Christchurch (the Young People’s Secretary for Christchurch and Westland) will preside.
