The Ihumata arrived at noon to-day from Wanganui. She will load a cargo of timber for Sydney. The Kaimai arrived last evening from Wellington with general cargo. She loads coal, timber and general cargo and returns hence to-morrow. The Kaituna leaves Auckland at noon to-day with general cargo for Greymoutb. The Kittawa leaves New Plymouth on Tuesday for . Greymouth. On arrival she will load coal for Welling? ton.

The auxiliary schooner Piri left Auckland on Thursday last with explosives for Westport and Greymouth. After discharge she will load timber at Greymouth for Melbourne. From Melbourne the vessel will return to New Zealand with explosives. The Poolta, with timber from Clarence River and Port Stevens arrived on Monday from Newcastle at Wellington, and will later proceed to Timaru, Dunedin and Greymouth to complete discharge. '

The Regulus is due to-night from Wellington, Nelson and Westport, with general cargo. After discharge go of tijnber for Sydney. Mr. H?<V. Bell, of the Auckland staff of the New Zealand Shipping Company, has been promoted to manager of the Union Company and New Zealand Shipping Company’s combined office in Gisborne. He will replace Mr. H. Holderness, who has been transferred to Christchurch, where he will be manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s office.

WASHINGTON, November 23.

The American Merchant Marine at June 30, consisted of 25,778 vessels of 16,887,000 tons gross, compared with 26,363 vessels of 17,375,000 tons in 1926. The vessels privately owned, of 500 tons or over, numbered 1957 of 6,836,000 tons, compared with 1996 of 6,732,000 tons last year. There are 879 United States Shipping Board vessels aggregating 4,539,000. tons, compared with 1056, of 5,162,000 tons a year ago.
