PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION The annual meeting of the Greymouth Patriotic Association was held in the Town Hall yesterday afternoon, present, Messrs J. W. Greenslade (chairman), D. Tennent, H. R. Barrett, A. H McKane, G. R. Harker, W. R. Kettle, G. E. Perkins, W. H. Parfitt, J. Ring and F. Baillie (secretary). The annual report and balance sheet were read and adopted. 1 On the motion of the Chairman a vote of thanks was accorded Mr. W. H. Parfitt and the secretary for drawing up the annual report. Votes of condolence were extended to Messrs D. McKay and G. E. Perkins respectively on the death of their mothers. Two maternity bonuses w’ere granted and two grants to soldiers W’ere approved. Three grants were recommended and one application for a loan referred to the applicant’s enlistment town. The National War Funds Council wrote regarding assistance to unemployed soldiers. A committee was set up to go into the question and report. HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

(Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, Sept. 24. A meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council w r as held last eyening; present: Mr G. E. Perry (Mayor), Crs D. J. Evans, E. W. Heenan, T. W. Duff, A. R. Elcock, A. C. Armstrong, W. Jeffries, J. King, G. Heinz, and E. Tiechelmann. The Westland Competitions Society wrote thanking the Council for use of seats during the competitions. The Commissioner of Crown Lands again w’rote re motor boating on Lake Kanieri, asking the Council to make a definite pronouncement on: (1) The question of motor boating on Lake Kanieri; (2) Whether it is advisable to allow boat sheds, which have been erected on the shore of the lake near the intake to remain in their present position, or whether owners should be directed to remove them. This was discussed at length, and it was finally decided that a special committee consisting of the Mayor, Crs Duff, Tiechelmann and Evans, confer with the Commissioner and to draw up regulations to safeguard the purity of the water supply, and to be submitted to a later meeting of the Council. Mrs Elizabeth Cameron, Revell Street, applied to lease Borough Reserve No. 476 (formerly held by Groufsky) at an annual rental of £1 ss, plus rates. (Note: rental is £1 5s p.a, and rates are £1 13s 4d). — Request granted on a year to year lease. Rental to be paid in advance and to include the present year’s The Town Clerk, Kumara, wrote thanking the Council for information supplied. ; . , The Secretary, Milk Unlimited, Auckland, wrote intimating intention to form a Dominion organisation for the more liberal use of milk and asking the Council to assist by supplying the names of persons responsible for the supply and distribution of milk in the Borough.—Received and Town Clerk to supply the information. The District Land Registrar forwarded notices, under Land Transfei Act respecting Municipal Reserves. J. Taylor wrote asking permission to erect a scaffolding and barricade the footpath, while demolishing the remains of the Symes’ Tea Rooms building, destroyed by the recent fire. —Granted.

L. Chong requested extraordinary water connection to his premises in Revell Street—Granted at the rate of £1 per year, payable in advance. Mr J. L. Fowler asked permission to open and make a connection to the drain in the right of way adjoining his building in Revell StreetGranted. A petition from Mr W. Folley and 15 others was received requesting that a street lamp be installed at the intersection of Brittan and Park Streets—Request granted and the Public Works Committee to attend to same.
