DAINTY DAFFODILS

ST. JOHN’S FLOWER SHOW An attractive display of dainty daffodils aroused much admiration in the Schoolroom, Guinness Street, where the Annual St. John’s Daffodil Show was held this afternoon. The judge, Mr. F. Kendrick, of Greymouth, stated that the daffodils were an exceptionally nice lot, of S ood Q uall ty» and it was difficult to make the awards, particularly in the classes for barrii and leedsi; also in the champion bloom section. About half a dozen of the blooms were practically equal, but the winner (one of Mr. A. B Spiers’ entries) Was particularly well balanced. The polyanthi were a beautiful, collection, and would have been improved had they been shown in separate vases. The judge of the decorative class, Miss Kyle, stated that the whole section was very dainty and well arranged. The entries in the cookery section were not so numerous as could have been wished. The judging was done b/ Mr. P. Blanchfleld, Good business was done during the afternoon at the cookery, sweets, jumble, flower, and work stalls, while the tea rooms also drew their share of patrons, and lucky dips in “Ye Okie Village Pump” kept'the juveniles interested. Mrs. J. P. Forbes carried out the numerous secretarial duties in a capable manner. The results were as follow, the number of entries being shown in parentheses.— DAFFODILS.
