(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) SYDNEY, September 11. Tattersall’s races were held in fine, though cold weather. Showers overnight and in the forenoon, made the going on the Randwick track slightly heavy. .Though New Zealand horses carried off fewer prizes than in the previous week at Warwick Farm, Limerick added to his reputation by annexing the principal event, the Chelmsford Stakes, in the easiest style, cantering home from the New Zealand Derby candidate Merry Mint. It was a convincing win, though Merry Mint ran -well. Although the New Zealanders ran in all the events, none of the others were placed. Results: — Tramway Handicap, 7 furlongs.— Mullabawn (7.7) 1, (1) Persuasion (8.8) 2, Cumon (7.2) 3. . Fourteen ran, including White Fang and Runnymede. 1 Persuasion made most of the running, but in the straight Mullabawn came fast and -won by five lengths. Time 1.27.

Chelmsford Stakes. —Limerick (9.0) 1, Merry Mint (7.13) 2, Son o’ Mine (7.8) 3. There were seven starters. Genuine showed the way to Limerick, Commendation and Merry Mint, who were together at the end of half a mile. A little latei- Limerick shot to the front, and led into the straight two lengths clear of Genuine, with Commendation, Merry Mint and Son o Mine following in that order. Merry Mint Went into second place, but could make no impression on Limerick, who cantered in two and a half lengths ahead of Merry Mint, who beat Son o’ Mine by a length and a-half. Commendation was another three lengths away fourth. Time 1.55 J. Spring Handicap—Murillo (9.4) 1, Tibie (7.12) 2, Valamita (8.5) 3. There were seventeen starters, including Battlement and Rawhetu. Battlement held the lead in a bunched field to the entrance to the straight, where Murillo joined Tibbie and Valamita in the lead, Murillo winning‘by three lengths. Battlement finished eighth. Time 2.95. COMMENDATION DISAPPOINTS. SYDNEY, September 11. The “Sun” newspaper critic says: — Commendation was a great disappoint-

ment in the Chelmsford Stakes, and so far as he has gone in Sydney, he has not lived up to expectations. Everybody expected him to extend Limerick. Far from that, he was beaten at the turn. A month’s work will doubtless help him, but he will need to improve considerably to be able to run out the severe one and a-half miles of the Caulfield Cup. VALICARE RETIRES. SYDNEY, September 11. The champion spritner, Valicare, has been definitely retired from the turf, and she goes to the stud.
