(Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, Sept. 9. A sitting of the Court was held to-day before Mr Meldrum, Warden,' when th'e following applications were dealt with. A. B. Archer for a coal’prospecting license over 45 acres, in Block VII, Reefton S.D. —Adjourned to September 22. Reddale Collieries Ltd., for a coal lease over 66 acres in Block X, Reefton S.D. —Objected to by G. G. Lockington and the Reefton Coal Co. Ltd. —Adjourned to September 22. G. G. At the sitting of the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr Meldrum, S.M., judgment for plaintiff by default was given in each of the following cases: F. Keating v. F. G. Hanlon, £lO 0/6, costs £3 4/; Inangahua Hospital Board v. Patrick Hyland, £5 19/, costs £2 0/6 ; Blackwater Mines Ltd. v. Patrick. Murray £2, costs £1 13/6 ; J. W. Chalk v. Patrick Gilsennan, £* 3/9, costs £1 0/6; T. McGillicuddy v. J. Kane £5 10/, costs £1 10/6; Inangahua County Council v. Caliope Coal Mining Co., Ltd., £3O 18/, costs £4 1/6; Inangahua Hospital Board v. John Gillman £8 11/, costs £1 10/6. Public Trustee v. Jim Shannon, claim £24 12/. Defendant claimed to have made two payments of £l5 each which had only been accredited as £5 each. He paid the balance into Court. After hearing evidence the Magistrate summed up that it appeared to be entirely a question of which he believed, the records of deceased for whom the Public Trustee was acting or the defendant. He had no hesitation in the matter. Judgment for plaintiff for the full amount claimed, with costs £8 5/10,j Patrick O’Donnell was charged with that he being a person other than the licensee of the Empire Hotel, Waiuta, he did supply . three persons with liquor at a time when they were not lawfully entitled to be supplied. Defendant pleaded guilty in each instance. Convicted and fined £2, costs 10/ on the first case ; and ordered to pay Court costs 10/ on each of the other charges. Ann O’Donnell, the licensee of the same hotel, was charged with (1) selling; (2) keeping the premises open for the sale of liquor; and (3) exposing liquor for sale —all after hours. Mr Phillips pleaded “guilty” on her behalf. For keeping her premises open after hours defendant was fined £3 and costs £1 9/6. The other two charges were withdrawn. A case against Jack Pengelly for failure to render the personal service required of him under the Defence Act, in’ that lie did fail to attend his company’s drill was withdrawn. Several other cases for similar offences were adjourned on the application of the Police till September 22. Three first offenders weer fined 10/ for being on licensed premises after hours.
