MISSING MAILBAG
ONE CHEQUE CASHED. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, September 9. A £lO cheque,, in the missing mail bag, was cashed in an Auckland butcher’s shop, having been tendered in payment for meat. It was marked not negotiable, and made out by an Auckland firm in payment of a Hamilton resident. The cheque, though payable to bearer, bears a forged endorsement in printed script of the Hamilton resident’s name. The mail bag was missed on Saturday afternoon. The cheque was presented in the butcher’s shop on Tuesday at a time when there, was a rush of customers. Beyond the fact that a man handed it in, there is no clue to the perpetrator of the fraud.
