The Prince of Wales and Prince George have sailed home-ward from Quebec by the steamer Empress of Scotland. Dr. Moore returned to Greymouth t)y yesterday’s express. Mr F. J. Ferriman of Ashburton is visiting Greymouth. The Mayor (Mr J. W. Greenslade), is confined to his home, with an attack of influenza. A telegram of sympathy was forwarded by the Greymouth Borough Council to the' relatives of the late Mrs E. McKay. Sister Blair, and Miss C. Blair, of Patara, who have been spending a few weeks’ holiday in Christchurch, left last evening for Auckland. • At the end of the Parliamentary session Sir Joseph Ward, M.P., will probably leave on a business trip to England. Miss Janet' N. McGhie, of Dunedin, late of King George V. Hospital, Rotorua, has been appointed as Matron of the Palmerston North Hospital.

Messrs G. M. Clark and A. M. Lawn of Dunedin, are visiting Greymouth and are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lawn, Winnie Street.

Mr J. Finlay .was entertained by the residents of Ngahere last evening, and was presented with a handsome suitcase, prior to his leaving the district.

Miss Mabin, of the A.M.P. Society’s Greymouth Branch, has been transferred to Nelson, for which place she will leave in a fortnight’s time.

The death of Mrs Annie Gray, one of the oldest residents in Brunner, took place this morning at her residence, Wallsend. Her husband predeceased her many years ago.

Mr T. A. Burbury, of Abbotsford, Dunedin, has been appointed Farm Manager of Waimaunga Experimental Farm, and arrived yesterday. Mr C. S. Dalgliesh, Fields Instructor, will make his headquarters at Greymouth.

Rev. W. Greenslade, Chairman of the Methodist North Canterbury district, will arrive from Christchurch tomorrow in connection with the Jubilee Services on Sunday of St. Paul’s Methodist Church.

The death took place in the Westport Hospital on Tuesday evening, of Miss Nancy Rees, daughter of Mr and Mrs Rees, of Westport. Deceased had been in the hospital for three years. She was 22 years of age.

The death is announced from Sydney of Mrs Percy Hunter, wife of the managing director of the Pacific Cable Board. Formerly Miss Blair, she was well-known in literary and journalistic circles.

The funeral of the late Mr Patrick Curtdin took place this morning, when there was a large attendance of Brunner and Dobson residents, as well as from Greymouth and other parts of the district. Requiem mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church this morning, Rev. Father Quinn being celebrant, and afterwards taking the service at the graveside at Karoro.

It is unlikely (says the Auckland “Sun”) that there will be any new appointments to the Magisterial Bench within the next few months, but Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., now of Greymouth, will be appointed to Auckland before the end of the year. Until he comes to Auckland Messrs J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., E. Page, S.M., and J. H. Salmond, S.M., will each do a month’s relief work in the city.

Owing to a measure of ill health, Mr E. P. Turner, engineer to the Christchurch Tramway Board, has resigned from that position, and has been asked by the board to undertake the duties of assistant engineer. The Tramway Board has appointed Mr M. M. Wright to the vacant position. Mr Wright has been assistant engineer for some years.

The death of Mr Percy S. Waldie took place in Wellington this morning. Deceased had been ailing for a short time only. He was the chief clerk of the Public Works . Department, and had recently completed 33 years of service. He was for a number of years in the Public Works Department, Greymouth, and recently toured New Zealand with the Highway Board Commission as a member. Deceased was 57 years of age. He leaves a widow (nee Miss Tindale) formerly of Greymouth.

The twenty-fifth anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood was celebrated yesterday by Archdeacon Holbrook, Priest in charge of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Grey Lynns. Archbishop Redwood, came especially to Auckland for the. celebrations, but owing to the stress of the journey, was able only to attend the valedictory luncheon. Among those present at the different functions were: Bishop Cldary, Bishop of Auckland, Dr. Liston, Coadjutor Bishop; Bishop Whyte, Bishop of Dunedin. At a social function in the evening Archdeacon Holbrook was presented with an illuminated address arid substantial cheque °from his parishioners and friends.—Press Assn.
