SHIPS COLLIDE
MISHAP ON THAMES (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, August 30. The propeller of the steamer Pandos Beltana holed the steamer Torrington in a collision on the Thames, the Torrington sinking alongside a wharf. The Pandos Beltana and the Torrington were proceeding together down the Gravesend Beach when the former stuck, and cut in halves a small motor boat which had broken down. Its sole occupant jumped into the river, and was rescued by a tug. The Pandos Beltana then swung, and, as a result, the Torrington was holed, and beached in a sinking condition. The Pandos Beltana was able to proceed to Australia.
