A COSTLY EXTENSION. 'Australian and N.Z Cable Association.) LONDON, July 19. The King and Queen, at Liverpool, opened the Gladstone Docks system, which has cost seven and a-half millions sterling. The total length of the quays at which vessels can now be moored is three miles. The entrance lock, is a triumph of engineering, making the docks accessible to the largest ships afloat at any state of the tide. The quayside sheds provide 601 acres of floor space. Th:; King was dressed as an Admiral of the Fleet. He stood at salute on the bridge of the steamer Galatea, as the vessel cut. the silk ribbon into the entrance look in the presence of tens of thousands of cheering spectators. Their Majesties afterwards returned to London.
