COTTAGE “GHOST”

BLAZING RAGS SCATTERED. An extraordinary story of a “ghost” which, besides moving heavy stones, does considerable damage with lighted rags soaked in parraffln, a safety razor blade and a knife, comes from Holboach, Linshire. The mysterious incidents are said to have occurred at night in the Red House, Holbeach, a cottage occupied by Mr and Mrs Charles Brown, aged 81 and 74 respectively, and have so alarmed the old couple that Mrs Brown has been summoning her neighbours by ringing a bell from the window of the bedroom. Her husband is confined in bed by ,a paralytic stroke. The following are some of the “ghost ly" manifestations: —Heavy stones removed from a cistern on the roof and placed against the front door. Blazing paraffin rags placed on the hearthrug and in a hut. in the garden. Safety razor used to remove oil from oilstove, and marks made on doors with razor blade and sharp knife. Alarming rattlings and rappings at doors and in cupboards, and the disappearance of keys from a locked room. Mr Pratt, a neighbour, said he recently helped to put out a mysterious fire, and another neighbour. Mrs Parker, described “muffled” rappingfe she had heard." Miss Doris Heard, a maid at the Browns, was so upset that she threatened to leave rather than endure such “terrible experiences.”
