S. ISLAND CONFERENCES
HIGHWAYS AND ELECTRICITY
(Per Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, May 1G
Two important conferences for the purpose of discussing questions of vital interest to local bodies of the South Island will be held in Christchurch this week. The first, on Wednesday, will deal with the operation of the Main Highways Act in the South Island. All local bodies in the Island and also the South Island Motor Union have been invited to appoint delegates. It is expected that the conference will result in a much better understanding as regards the operation of the Act, and will enable several schemes for improvement of the highways to be carried into effect. On Thursday a second conference will be held. This will be concerned with the future of the electric power supply for Canterbury and North Otago and will be attended by the chief Government electrical engineers, and delegates from all power supply authorities in Canterbury and North Otago.
