RECREATION GROUND.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Seeing that a conference of sporting representatives meet to-night to allot dates on which various codes can play fixtures on the Recreation Ground, I would like to make known to the ratepayers of Greymouth the following facts in connection with gate receipts:—(l) Last June 3, the League match, Marist v. Runanga drew a gate of £42; (2) That the Otago-West Coast rep. match drew a gate of £6O. The gates, which jointly amounted to £lO4 showed the ratepayers of Greymouth a profit of almost £2O being 20 per cent receipts on gate money. Against this the Soccer match. Rewanui v. Grey produced a gate of 18/- failing to add even four shillings to the rightful revenue of Greymouth ratepayers. Surely under these conditions, the business men elected to the Council will do their best to carry out their trust, and return to taxpayers a fair deal. —Yours etc..
LEAGUEITE
