TRADES UNION BILL

JACK JONES AT HIS WORST

(Australian & N.Z. Cable Assn.)

LONDON, May 12.

In the House of Commons, as soon as the division was called, Mr. Jack Jones (Labour) again shouted —“It is a dirty trick! Nothing but a hog would play such a tric!k!”

There were renewed demands that Mr. Jones should be “Named,” but Mr. Jones retorted—“ You cannot name me now! ”

After ninety minutes’ debate, tho discussion on another amendment was closured, amid angry protests from the Labourites, who during the subsequent division sang “La Marseillaise.” Although called to order several times for irrelevance, Mr. Jack Jones spoke without using any expletive on the next amendment to the Trade Union Bill. He declared: “I don’t believe in a general strike. I. believe in a General Election. A general strike as a means of solving the social problem is general nonsense; but the whole right to strike is being now taken from the workers.” The process of closuring and defeating the amendments was continued until 3.40 o’clock this morning. Then the House adjourned.
