STOLEN BARRIER

TRAINER’S ADMISSION.

SYDNEY, April 27

A confession implicating the owner of the racehorse Gay Adam was made in the Police Court at St. Lawrence today, when two aborigines were charged with stealing the barrier from the racecourse at Broadsound.

Owing to the removal of the barrier, a flag had to be used for starting the races.

“I was training Gay Adam for Stephen Connell. The horse was a bad starter at the barrier. The day before the race Connell came to me and told me to remove the barrier in the night. He gave me a saw with which to cut the posts if I could not pull them out of their sockets.

“That night I got Cyril White to help me remove the barrier. The posts came out of the sockets easily, but we cut them afterwards and removed them to a place outside the raccourse.”

This was the evidence of John Nipp, who, with Cyril White, was charged with stealing one barrier, the property of Charles Black.

Both accused pleaded guilty. They stated that they had not received any thing from Connell, who promised them something if he won the race. Gay Adam did not win.

The damage was estimated at £6. The Bench fined the accused £1 each, and ordered them to make restitution of the value of the stolen pro-' perty. The money was immediately paid.

Both the accused had previously borne an excellent character.

The horse Gay Adam was a wellknown performer at Callaghan Park, but very troublesome at the barrier.
