HOLY TRINITY CHURCH

MEETING (IN PARISHIONERS

The annual meeting of the parishioners of Holy Trinity Church was held last evening, Archdeacon Carr presiding over a good attendance. After the usual devotional exercises the Church Wardens’ report was presented as follows: —“The year, beginning .April 1, 1926, was commenced with a credit balance of £l4/11/9. Against this there was held in the General Fund a suin of £25/7/4 belonging to the New Church BuildingFund and £l3/2/11 belonging to Blaketown Building Fund. —Total £3B/10/3, leaving a debit balance in the General Fund of £23/18/6. General Offertories and Donations amounted to £439/11/1 shoSving a falling of £29/3/- as compared with the previous year of £95/6/-. showing it is imperative that some definite effort must be made at once to put. our income from this source on a more satisfactory basis. The Vestry recommends the adoption of the Duplex Envelope System which* has met with much success wherever tried. Rents received were £75/8/2, against £94/19/- the falling off being accounted for by unrecoverable outstandingrents due in respect of the Tainui Street property. Donations and Offertories on behalf of the New Church Fund were £4O/5/9 against £25/7/4 for the previous year. The appeal for funds for a. Christmas Dinner for the London Poor produced about £9 compared with £6/7/9 last year. Special efforts on behalf of the General Funds were: Flower Show, (£47/9/8 last year) £4O/6/9; Fair, £2B/14/5; Concert in Town Hall, net. £22/4/6. Gazettes: Subscriptions produced only £4/9/- As the cost to the Parish was £ll/6/- it is suggested that an effort be made to put this matter tin a satisfactory basis.

Vicarage: The Vestry has applied for a loan of £l5O from the Standing Committee for repairs to and painting of the Vicarage, owing to the poor response last year to the appeal for funds. It will probably be necessary to appeal for £3O each year for five years to repay this amount. Piano: By the generous help of Mrs Wray and co-workers a new piano has been procured for the Sunday School and the thanks of all are due to Mrs Wray for her splendid organisation of the effort. A comparatively _ small amount is still owing on the instrument.

Fair and Concert: These are organised by Mrs Wray and resulted as stated above. The best thanks of the Vestry and Parishioners are due to her.

We thank the ladies and various organisations for their valuable help during the year and also all others who have helped in various ways, and we have to express our thanks to Archdeacon and Mrs Carr, to the Choir, and Choirmaster, and Organist, Sunday School teachers, Envelope secretaries and others for their valuable services on behalf of the Church which are much appreciated.” The Archdeacon stated that the decrease in the offertory was due to a great extent to the number of people who had left the district, and whose places had not been filled. This would account for at least £5O. It was resolved that the report and balance sheet be received and adopted. Archdeacon Carr, reporting upon his duties as Vicar, stated that he had, during the year, attended services at Camerons, and also at Blaketown The attendance at the latter place, however, had dropped off owing to illness. Mr Mabin was at present conducting a Sunday School class there of 30 children. The town Sunday School was doing well, but was short of teachers. Offers were being made to give assistance. Bible instruction had been given in the Public Schools each Thursday. During the year, there had been 37 baptisms and 26 marriages. There were 1003 communicants and IS persons had been confirmed. He wished church people would call his attention to cases of sickness, as he was not always aware that such existed.

The election of officers resulted: — Vicar’s Warden: Mr E. B. Mabin; People’s Warden, Mr W. R Smythe; Vestry. Messrs Pring. Oliver. Kettle, Green. Crumpton. Piatt. Leach, Smart and Williams.

Votes of thanks were passed to Hie Sunday School teachers, and lay-read-ers and oui-going officers of the Church.

The matter of the Church Jubilee, which takes place in July, was discussed. It was resolved to elect a ladies’ auxiliary committee to make arrangements for some suitable celebration. The Archdeacon announced that C’ght Humphrey lamps had been presented to the Church. It was intended to place these in the Church and to do away with the old centre chandelier which had done service for many years. . . 1 . At a subsequent meeting, presided over bv the People’s Warden (Mr Smythe), Mr E. B. Mabin was nominated for the position of Synodsman.
