EASTER ATTRACTIONS

enjoyment for all.

An extensive and varied programme of Easter attractions offers plenty of scope for enjoyment amongst Greymouth people during the holidays. Added to the pleasures afforded by the numerous outings available to those with motor-cars, many attractive programmes have been arranged to be held throughout Easter week. Racing enthusiasts are well catered for, and the meetings at Kumara on Easter Monday, Hokitika, oh Wednesday; Sreyniduth on Saturday, the 23rd., and Reef ton, Wednesday 27 th will provide amply for lovers of the turf. Followers of football will have a wide choice. The Rugby Union has arranged a programme which will mark the grand kick-off for the season, a ’Varsity team from Christchurch being matched against a Coast team. The curtain-raiser to this will probably be a criterion of many forthcoming great fourth-grade struggles. The League schedule includes two games at the Rec. on Saturday, and two at Cobden on Sunday. At Reefton, the West Coast will display its best talent on the track oh Easter Monday, where a great programme of motor cycle and running events has been arranged, and a record crowd is expected on the racecourse. Bowling tournaments will be held on Good Friday and Easter Monday on the Greymouth and Runanga greens. Evening amusements are many and varied, the chief attraction being the visit of the new Humphrey Bishop Musical and Comedy Company, who will open a three nights’ season on Saturday night next, in the Opera House. Pictures will offer the usual nightly enticement in the Town Hall, and good programmes will be screened. For the many West Coasters who love to “trip the light fantastic toe,” the M. 8.0.8. have arranged a ball. Special time-tables arranged by the Railway Department will allow country residents to avail themselves of all the fun of the Easter Carnival.

The Railway Department has arranged » special excursion on Good Friday to Lake Mahinapua, the train leaving Greymouth at 8.50 a.m. and returning from the Lake at 5.5 p.m.

CHURCH SERVICES. Special services will be held in the Roman Catholic, Methodist and Anglican churches and Salvation Army barracks on Good Friday . In the Anglican Church the choir will render che cantata “Olivet to Calvary.”’ On Sunday the usual Easter services will take place in all the churches. There will be no service in the Methodist Church to-morrow morning as previously announced. MOANA SPORTS. In connection with ' the chopping and aqju;|t(c spojrts to be held at Moana on Saturday, splendid nominations have been received, which should give a really good day’s enjoyment to those who attend. ’ Luncheon may be obtained at the Lakeville Hotel on arrival of the train from Greynionth.
