MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS

NO RUNANGA CONTESTS.

Owing to there being no contest for seats on the Runanga Borough Council, the requisite number only being nominated, the following have been declared duly elected :— Mayoralty.—Mr Robert McTaggart. Councillors.—James Connell, Richard Southward, Archibald J. Boddy, Robert J. Armstrong, Michael Malone, Henry Duggan. Power Board, —-Mr Henry Duggan has been elected to represent Runanga on the Grey Electric Power Board. Hospital Board. —Mr Richard McTaggart has been returned unopposed, as representative on the Grey Hospital Board,, for the combined Boroughs of Runanga and Brunner. HOKITIKA AND ROSS. (Special to “Star.”) HOKITIKA, April 14. Mr G. A. Perry was re-elected Mayor of Hokitika. Fifteen nominations for Council: A. C, Armstrong, T. W. Duff, A. R. Elcock- D. J. Evans, C. Friend, E. W. Heenan, G. Heinz, W. Jeffries, M. McGavin, J. King, H. T. Parry, S. J. Preston, E. Teichelmann, J. L. Turner, S. F. Orr, W. Wright. For the Harbour Board: C. Friend, E. W. Heenan, W. E. Richards. H. T. Parry, G. A. Wood, W. Ziegler. Hospital Board: J. J. Breeze, T. W. Duff, C- Friend, G. Heinz, M. McGavin, and H. T. Parry. For Ross Mr S. P. Evans was reelected as Mayor. The Council was just fiMed. CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, April 14. There was only one surprise in the city nominations, when they closed at noon to-day. Dr Thacker, an exMayor of Christchurch, entered the field as a candidate for the City Council, in addition to contesting the election for the Lyttelton Harbour Board. For the city Mayoralty there will be a clear cut issue between the sitting Mayor, the Rev. J. K. Archer, the nominee of the Labour Party and Mi C. P. Agar, nominated by the Citizens’ Association. A total of 34 candidates has been nominated for sixteen seats on the City Council. Sixteen are Labour representations, sixteen are representatives of th Citizens’ Association, and two are independents.

BLENHEIM. BLENHEIM. April 14. Mr McKenzie was re-elected Mayor unopposed. There are thirteen nominations for nine seats on the, Borough Council, three for two seats on the Power Board", and four for three seats on the Hospital Board. No election for the Wairau Harbour Board will be necessary. NELSON AND RICHMOND. NELSON, April 13. The nominations for the Maoralty are -‘William Lock (sitting Mayor) and Mr Walter J. Moffatt.' There are twenty nominations for the nine seats on the City Council. Messrs H. R. Duncan, M. M. Moncrieff, A. Gould, and H. W. Kelly (sitting members) and Mr F. L. Ledger have been returned unopposed for the Harbour Board. There are five nominations for three seats on the Hospital Board. There are no nominations for* the Mayoralty of Richmond. There are only three nominations for six seats on the Borough Council. MOTUEKA.. MOTUEKA, April 13. The candidates for the Motueka Mayoralty are Mr D. W. Talbot (sitting Mayor) and Mr James A. Wallace. There are nine nominations lor six seats on the Council. Mr R. P. Hudson and Mr A. R. Edwards (sitting members) are elected unopposed to the Harbour Board, and Mrs P. Moffatt (sitting member) unopposed to the Hospital Board. WANGANUI. WANGANUI, April 13. In the municipal elections, the present Mayor, Air Hope Gibbons, will be opposed by Mr W. J. Rogers in the Labour interests. There are 22 candidates for twelve council seats, eleven candidates for fou> seats on the Hospital Board, eight for six seats on the Harbour Board, four candidates for three seats on the River Trust, and six candidates for four seats on the Power Board. MASTERTON. * MASTERTON, April 13. Unusual interest was created, at the last moment, in the nomination 'of local body representatives, and there will be an election for the Mayoralty,, the Borough Council, the Power Board, and for the country seats on the Wellington Habour Board. For the first time in the history of the town, a woman has been nominated for a seat on the Borough Council. HAWERA. HAWERA, April 13. Mr F. A. Pacey has been elected Mayor unopposed. Only nine nominations were received for nine vacancies on the Borough Council.
