The death occurred on Wednesday of Mrs. Emma Rice, at the age of 89 years of age. The Internal Affairs Department also promised to give consideration to the request to introduce silver grey and black opossums for the improvement of the stock and also to extend the location of opossums into South Westland. The death occurred yesterday afternoon of Mrs. Wm. Burrows, of Christchurch, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. F. Lynch, bf Beach. Deceased was here on a health visit. She was a native z of Hokitika and 57 years of age. She was' a daughter of the late Mr. H. G. Diedricks, and besides a husband, leaves a family of four sons and four daughters, the latter including Mrs. F. Lynch (Hokitika) and Mrs. AV. Harris (Christchurch). She also leaves live sisters, viz., Mesdames T. Rugg (Christchijrch), Selby (Kanieri), McFadyen (Hokitika), 11. Norman (Blenheim) and Brown (Greymouth) and two brothers, AVilliam and David Diedricks of Kokatahi and Hokitika respectively. The funeral takes place to-morrow. The Hokitika Lawn Tennis Club will hold their opening day to-mor-row, when a handicap tournament will be played. St. Mary’s Church at Rimu has recently been renovated. Both the interior and exterior present a very pleasing appearance.
Mr. J. Schroder has erected an up-to-date sawmill at Mount Misery, Rimu. The mill is expected to be in working order in the coming year.
