CANTERBURY REQUEST. (Per Press Assbciation.j ASHBURTON, December 2. A conference of between seventy and eighty representatives of the Farmers’ Unions, A. and P. Associations, and wheat growers of North, Mid, and South Canterbury was held to-day. The meeting decided to urge upon the Government the necessity of imposing an embargo on the importation of flour, such embargo to apply until all the New Zealand wheat is sold. The conference rejected an amendment that the Government be asked to increase the duty on flour by £1 per ton, or failing which, that it be asked to readjust the duties between wheat and flour. It was also decided, in the event of such an embargo being refused, to ask for an increase of the duty on flour by 25/- per ton. It was further decided to form a Grain Growers’ Association to obtain reliable information concerning grain statistics and. values. .
