NO OVERTIME STRIKE

(Australian & N.Z. Cable Assn.) MELBOURNE, Dec. I.’ The Watersiders’ Federation defied Judge Beeley, and declined to end the overtime strike. This decision has led'to a complete stalemate in dispute. SEAMEN’S PROTEST SYDNEY, Dec. 11 A meeting of the marine transport group of unions considered tire serious , position that has arisen throughout the Commonwealth, as the result of the no overtime strike by the watersiders. The action of the wharf labourers was the subject of bitter argument, the seamen stating they would have to forfeit a large sum of money which was given as guarantee to the Industrial Commissioner, that they would not participate in a strike when granted re-registra-tion. The meeting adjourned till Monday next, when the whole matter will be referred to the Federal'Disputes Committee. , CRANE DRIVERS’ DISPUTE. SYDNEY, December .2. As the result of the crane drivers’ strike, there is considerable congestion of overseas steamers at as a number of them usually proceed to Newcastl? for bunkers, but until the cessation of the strike they will have to coal here. Practically all the coal used for bunkering purposes ;in Sydney, comes from the South Coast mines, which are affected by the strike. YALLOURN SETTLEMENT. ' MELBOURNE, December 2'.. As the result of developments there is a more hopeful outlook in. regard to the Yallourn strike. An informal conference was held at the Arbitration Court between Judge Lukin and representatives of the Australian. Workers’ Union. Representatives’ of the Electricity Commission werp also present. Judge Lukin urged ■ the union representatives to try to induce the men to resume without, further trouble, and after discussion ■ they agreed to do so. . - ,
