: The death of Mrs John Coulthard of Runariga, took place about eight o’clock last evening, heart failure being the cause. Deceased was a native of Durham, England, and was 75 years of age. Iler son John, was a victim of the Eggers’ murder, some nine years ago. The late Mrs Coulthard leaves seven daughters, Mesdames A. J. Boddy and L. Hunter (Runanga), Ashurst (Blackball), A. Wensley (Blenheim), and Misses Elizabeth, Mary, and Winifred Coulthard (Runanga). Her husband predeceased her about six years ago.

A pleasant' dance was given in the Oddfellows’ Hall last evening in honour of Miss Alice Hannan, who will shortly., be leaving Greymouth, The Hostesses, Mesdames T. E. Y. Seddon .and F. Archdeacon. Cherrington, Bishopelect of Waikato diocese, arrived last night at Auckland, by the Mahana from England. He will remain in Auckland until the eve of his consecration, which will take place at Hamilton on Sunday, December 12. The news of the death of his wife in England last Thursday was wirelessed to him on the steamer, together with the sympathy of , the Waikato diocese. Mrs.\Cheyrinston was in, ill-health her husband left England, and it .was'"believed the trouble was a,form of rheumatism, but her death was not feared.

Wl Roynton will in future take the country Courts from Pukekohe to Waipu, With such assistance as is necessary from the three Auckland City Magistrates; Mr R. M. Watson, to take the Courts on the Main Trunk line from Hunterville to Otorohanga, both inclusive; Mr Wyvern Wilson, in addition to the present Hamilton circuit, to take the Court at Te Awamutu.

Rev. Father J. S. O’Brien, whose ordination took place at St. Patrick’s Church on Sunday, was entertained at a social at Nelson Creek on Tuesday evening, and was presented with a stole, and wallet of notes. Among those present were, Rev. Fathers McMonagle and Maguire (Greymouth), McKay (Ashburton), Gavin (Queenstown), and Henley (Invercargill). The presentation was made by Rev. Father O’Meeghan, pastor of the parish of Ahaura, who congratulated Mrs O’Brien on the dignity attained by her son. In returning thanks, Father O’Brien said that when he, ten years ago, began his ecclesiastical studies, he had been the recipient of tokens of kindness and his holidays to Nelson Creek were the most pleasant. His experience again was one of their goodwill. In accepting their gifts and good wishes, he took them as a token .of love and kindness, and, he, on his part, would ever remember with gratitude and affection, the many kind friends he was leaving in the Ahaura parish. During the evening a musical programme was given.
