Orders are available for 12 by 1 inch board, but it is not economical to cut one sized boards only, and there is no present demand for second class- white pine. The outlook does not suggest that any improvement in conditions is likely in the near future. One prominent timber man laconically remarked today that the timber industry was “up the putty!” '

Interviewed regarding a Wellington movement to have fish shops closed against flies, the same as butchers’ shops, the Minister of Public Health says it would never do. He was so assured by officers in whom he had the utmost confidence. Fish was .entirely different from meat. Fish should be kept moist, and flies would not attack a moist surface. To keep meat moist would injure it as a food substance. If fish were enclosed, it might soon reach a state where the odour would be intolerable. If proper care were exercised by the shopkeeper there should be no complaints. Fish should be watered frequently.
