CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 1. “It was hoped that the Australian lady swimmers, Clare Couldwell and Ettie Robertson, will be able to make a tour of the Dominion next February or March,” said the President of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association last night. “Negotiations were proceeding and there is every chance of their being successful.” BOXING. (Special to “Star.”) AUCKLAND, Dec. 1. The French middleweight, Marcel Thuru, is to fight Eddie Parker at Auckland on December 28. Thuru will leave Sydney for Auckland on Friday, in company with Ted Scott, formerly a journalist in Wellington, but now a professional boxer. Anderson, has refused a request by the Australasian Tennis Association that he should remain an amateur until next ' year to enable Australia to compete for the Davis Cup. There will be no lack of opportunities for showing their prowess on the running and cycling tracks, or with the axe and saw, so far as sportsmen in the Buller district are concerned this season. Attractive programmes have been arranged by the Westport Athletic and Cycling Association and the ' Mokihinui Sports Club. The WestpQrt meeting, to be held at Victoria Square on December 27, 28 and 29, will coincide with the Buller Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. Nominations will close with the joint secretaries (Messrs J. Connelly and E. R. Fox) on December 8, handicaps will be declared on December 13, and acceptances will close on December 22. Good prizes are offered, and large entries are expected from all over the Coast. The Mokihiniui meeting will be held on Quinn’s Paddock, Seddonville* on December 30, and the programme compi-ises chopping, sawing and pedestrian events; also novelty races. Nominations will close on December 11, handicaps will be declared on December' 18, and acceptances will close on the day of the sports. Letters and telegrams should be addressed to the joint secretaries (Messrs W. McNeight and A. Bain), Seddonville. A dance will be held after the sports. CYCLE SPORTS.
