FARMER CHARGED WITH ARSON. (Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 29. The occurrences which startled the neighbourhood of Mangorei some weeks ago had their sequel in the Supreme Court to-day, when Harris Leonard Spence, a farmer, was charged on four counts with arson and theft. On the day referred to, haystacks and a cowshed oh neighbouring farms were set afire in.quick succession, and there was a considerable stir in the district. The hearing was not completed today. It is understood That the defence will be based on the mental condition of the accused. Fisher Kapa, a native of Waitara, wg.s found guilty on one of four charges of carnal knowledge. -Sentence was deferred.
