At the inquest on the TenterfiMd cottage fire tragedy,'the evidence revealed that on the day of the trag.-dy Constable Milton had a violent quarrel with his wife, who accused him of having had improper relations with a former servant girl. Before this the family had lived very happily. CRANE DRIVERS’ STRIKE. Officials of. the Crane Employees’ SYDNEY, November 29. Union met representatives of the Railway Commissioners at a conference, when certain terms of settlement was submitted by . the Commissioners. These terms were placed before a mass meeting of the union later, and were rejected. The meeting decided to continue the strike until the Department agreed to reinstate the eighty-six men .dismissed. 44 HOURS WEEK. MELBOURNE, November 29. Eight hundred employees of the State Electricity Commffision at Yalhourn have struck, demanding a forty, four hours week. They state they will not return to work until the demand is conceded. MELBOURNE, . Nov. 30. The Yallourn strikers are coal workers who object to the new working conditions providing for a fortyeight- hours week, introduced under the revision of their award made recently by the Arbitration Court. .The action of the men has cut off all supplies of brown coal. If the strike lasts for aii extended period it will nean the power house will be forced to close. This will mean a shortage of current for the metropolis and throughout the State. Tlia briquettiljg plant which supplies a large portion of the industrial and domestic fuel of Melbourne will cease immediately. The total number of employees at Yallourn is 1,550, of whom eleven, hundred are affected. A commission; has immediately begun arrangements for emergency supplies for the city, if the strike lasts.
