MINERS RESUME

DISTRICT AGREEMENTS MADE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association) LONDON, November 28. The miners’ delegates met to consider district settlements. They then adjourned. No date was fixed ter next meeting. The “Daily Herald” admits that the Miners’ Federation has practically ceased in its attempt to .upcr/ise negotiations. An indication of the real result of the delegates’ meeting was the delegates telegraphing to the districts to resume work as soon as their respective settlements are endorsed by the men. The Lancashire and Cheshire owners’ and miners-’ representatives have, agreed to terms, including a three years’ truce, an, eight hours’ day, and the continuation of the April wages.

Mr Cook, speaking at the M’lier.?’ Delegates Conference, complained that the owners in Somerset, Kent. Gloucestershire, and other owners were imposing terms fatal to future peace. In the House of Commons the continuance of the “Emergency” Regulations for a month was moved by Sir W. Joynson-Hicks. He said he hoped that it would be possible to revoke the regulations in a fortnight. In the meantime, the Chief Constables would not ban the miners’ meetings. If a ban were necessary, it would be the Home Secretary’s responsibility. The Labourites appealed to the Ministry instantly to withdraw the Regulations as a graceful gesture. The debate was adjourned. Mr Cook, interviewed, admitted there had been a retreat, and the Federation had lost ground, but would regain it very shortly, by using the industrial political machine.
