RED JACKS, MILL
DESTROYED BY FIRE. The Red Jacks Sawmill, about half a mile from Ngahere, was completely destroyed by fire about 6.45 o’clock yesterday morning. There was a dense fog in the locality at the time and the fire had a good hold when discovered. Owing to there being no fire fighting appliances at hand the fire was allowed to burn itself out. The mill was the property of a syndicate. of whom Messrs Jos. Donaldson, Pryce Hamer and Thos. Jones were the partners, and had lately been shut down, but was just on the point of resuming cutting. As the result of the fire, about a dozen men will be out of employment. The property was uninsured.
