(Our Own Correspondent.) ■ REEFTON, June 18. •At Stevenson’s Hotel this afternoon, Mr H.-i P. Lawry, late S.M. at_, Westport, when passing through en route to Christchurch, was met by members of the business community and - presented with a parting gift. Mr Noble acted as chairman and voiced the feelings of the community and their regret at Mr Lawry’s departure from the Coast, and hoped that the change meant promotion and further opportunities for advancement in the New Zealand Judiciary. He asked their guest’s acceptance of an engraved ever-sharp pencil as a souvenir of his residence in the district and a small parting gift. Messrs Spencer, /Keating, and Thos. Phillips referred in complimentary terms to Mr services to the district and his association With the business and sporting interests of the community, and wished him and his family all the good things life could afford and success in his new sphere of life. Mr Lawry thanked the donors for the kindly thoughts that had prompted the gift. He did not need anything to remind him of his association with the district over a period of nearly 20 ■yeilrs. He wbuld use and treasure the present for the' Sake of the people of with whose lives he had ever endeavoured to identify himself while he had resided arrtorigst them. The final euchre for the Soccer Club was held in the Baud Room 1 last evening, and was largely attended. The ladies’ prizes for the evening were won by Miss A. Rivers Ist, and Mrs J. Hunt 2nd, mi's Dobson 3rd, the gent’s by Mr A. Gilman aiid Mr Baldwin, The aggregate prizes were woil by Mrs N. Collins Ist, Mrs Gough 2nd, Mrs Sharp 3rd itild Mrs S, Hocking, tn® gent’s by Mi- F.- Kearns Ist, Mr 1'Galbraith 2nd and Mr Waddell Ord, R. Gilroy 4th. This was the last euchre for the Soccer Club for the season. The Black’s Point Hockey Club will continue the series. There was a large attendance at the Cronadun Hockey Club’s paper ball held in the Cronadun Memorial Hall last evening. The hall was prettily decorated for the occasion, and the floor had been specially prepared for dancing. Excellent music was supplied by Miss Knyvett (piano), and Mr J. McElwee (violin) and Mr McGregor made an excellent M.C. The costumes were excellent, many showing originality, while others were moat amusing, in addition to several displaying exquisite taste. I'ne prizes for these were awarded to Mr P. Gallagher “Rooster,” first; Miss K. O’Donnell “Chubby Umbrella” second; Mr F. AV right ‘‘Old Lady,” and Miss E. Wright “Old Man.” The Lucky One-Step Competitions were
