HOKITIKA, June 19. Mr John Cameron, carrier, had a narrow escape from serious injuiy ou Thursday evening at Kanieri. He was driving a horse in a dray down the bank to the riverbed, the road, being very rough. This caused the dray to capsize, together with tne horse. Mr Cameron Aas pinned under the shaft of the dray. He called to a boy who was close by to get help. Mr Howat came and released Mr Cameron. Luckily, the horse remained quiet. Air Cameron was taken by the ambulance van to the hospital, where it was found his hip was dislocated. The ordinary meeting of the borough Council was held last night, present: The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry), and Crs. Jas. King, H. Blanrc, W. Jeffries, A. R. Elcock, F. M. Orr, G. Heinz, H. M. Coulson, H. T. Parry, J. Lloyd. T. Baty wrote applying for septic tank under cover of garage.—The Inspector objected to tank under sucii condition. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote protesting against the want of conveniences at the R.S.A. Hall, and the use of those at the Government building, threatening to take action against offenders. —The letter to be forwarded to the R.S.A. The Library Trustee wrote pointing out the absolute necessity for repairs to the Library building.—Cr Coulson said a leak was doing considerable damage to the interior and immediate action was necessary on the part of the Council.—lt was agreed to have the work done at once. The Municipal Band wrote applying for permission to put in a Heating point in Band room.—Request granted. T. Marks wrote surrendering lease in Sale Street.—Agreed to.

The Fire Board wrote complaining of persons standing in passage ways at Princess Theatre, and urging the necessity of lopping trees on Cass Square. The Hokitika Bowling Club wrote asking for lopping of trees on oast side of Cass Square. Cr Coulson said he was sure the Superintendent would not ask for precautions unless he was sure , they were needed. The Council should see that the by-laws were carried out with respect to the theatre. —It was agreed to authorise the Inspector to take action in such cases. Cr Coulson moved that the trees along Brittain Street be topped, also those on Stafford Street.—Seconded

by Cr. King. Cr Heinz said the trees were a menace to the gas container. An amendment by Cr Parry that the trees along Brittain Street*be removed, and those along Stafford Street be topped, was lost on ihe casting vote of the Mayor. A further amendment by Cr Jeffries that the Reserves Committee report on the question of removing all trees on the Square was carried. A request from J. Turner to construct a drain from his section •at corner of Hampden and Sewell Streets was granted, subject to the pipes being earthenware. P. Kirwan wrote complaining that tlie annual fee for a kerb pump was too high.

Wild and Bassett wrote applying for a second pump inside their gar' age. Jhe firm to be acquainted with

the fact that the Inspector of Lxplosives objected to inside pumps. Ihe Treasurer. reported : Receipts £/!5; Payments £231 9s; Cr □s ; Credit Loan Account £ll2 17s fid. Accounts amounting to £490 2 6 v. ere passed for payment. Ihe Abattoirs Manager reported carcases examined 31 cows, 4J heifers 53 bullocks, 277 sheep, 5 lambs 9 pigs, 24 calves; condemned 2 cows, 1 sheep; fees £75 16/6; 1925 ibO 16/-. .
