COMPANY PROMOTER

AUCKLAND MAN MISSING. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 16. For some days, anxious inquiries have been matte in Auckland concerning the present whereabouts of a financial agent, who has become fairly well known in some circles in the city, and row a warrant has been issued for his arrest. He has disappeared, and with him have also disappeared, it is alleged, some funds, together with details of a nuftiber of enterprises in the course of promotion. A curious feature of his disappearance is that there is no apparent reason why the man should forsake his usual haunts, for it is stated that there was every possibility of his eventually enriching himself considerably ; at least some of the enterprises which were in the course of establishment being said to be promising. Until recently, the promoter of these concerns occupied a L.ar«e suite of offices in the heart of the city, the personnel of office staff, and office fittings being in keeping with the magnitude of the undertakings. An account for over £l5O as_rent for the suite is said to be outstanding.

It was when one of several enterprises was about to be placed before the public for examination and for subscription of the necessary capital that the first suspicion that all was not well was aroused. The provisional directors were assembled to finalise tlie details, and to receive certain first moneys that were to be paid into the company. Everyone was there to time except the promoter. x The usual grace allowed to a busy man expired, but when, after a further period had elapsed, inquiries were made, it was found that no meeting could b i held that dav. The promoter had left the day before on a train journey, and from that journey he has not yet returned.
