HOKITIKA NOTES

- BOROUGH council meeting , i ■ (Our Own Correspondent.). HOKITIKA, Feb. 13. The Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. G. A. Perry), and Crs. S. F. Orr, A. R. Elcock, H. M. Coulson, J. Lloyd. Correspondence was .received from Westland A. and P. Association asking that a public holiday be declared on Show Day, Feb. 19.—Received and granted. From Park and Murdoch, re Borough lessees at Koiterangi etc. Received. From Ross Borough Council, Grey County Council and Grey Borough, stating that the licensing revenue last year was £l6O, £175/18/- and £945/12/- respectively. From Mrs. Preston asking that a culvert in Gibson Quay be repaired and the footpath tarred, —Receive.! and resolved that Mrs. Preston be notified that all culverts to private residences must be done at the applicant’s expense, and that the tarring of the footpath cannot be done just yet. From Westland branch of Canterbury Automobile Association asking that the Council co -operate with them in urging the completion of the Kumara Junction and Hokitika-Mahina-pua roads.—Received. On the motion of Cr. Coulson it was resolved that the Council support the Association. From Mrs. Gooch, senr., asking that a reserve be transferred to her son Lawrence. —Received and agreed to. From L. Gooch, drawing the Council’s attention to the state of the kerbing in front of the Presbyterian Church. —Resolved that the matter be referred to the P. W. Committee with power to act. From Grey County Council notifying that the meeting of the local bodies under No. 12 Main Highways Board be held on 16th. February at Greymouth.—Received and resolved that Cr. Coulson act for the Borough at that meeting... From O. Fowler, drawing attention to drain in front of his residence and asking that it be cleaned out—Received and resolved that the matter be attended to at once.

Frcm Health Inspector asking that Vehicles conveying infectious' cases to hospital be fumigated.—Received. From officer in charge of Licensing Committee Election (Mr. Coles) re election. —Received. The Town Clerk reported that he had interviewed representatives of the Licensed Victuallers’ and the Prohibition, in the hope that an election would be avoided.— The action of the clerk was .approved. The Town Clerk applied for and was granted his annual holiday. From L. Gooch, asking permission to instal a Bowser pump at his store, Stafford Street. —Received and granted on usual conditions From County Clerk, asking the Borough Council to pay cost of repairs to road, owing to damage caused by Borough pipes leaking.—Received and agreed to. The Treasurer reported: Receipts. £450/11/2; payments, £713/11/10: Dr. General Account £309/19/9; Cr. Loan Account, £394/18/6. Accounts amounting to £387/13/3 passed for payment. The foreman reported on works carried out during the month. Cr. Coulson drew the Council’s attention to a resolution on the minutes re the tar-sealing of the streets. He complained that the resolutions made by the Council are not being given effect to. Cr. Orr pointed out the bad weather had delayed the work. The Abattoir Manager reported stock killed and examined as under: 15 cows, .30 heifers, 59 bullocks, 231 sheep, 81 lambs, 29 pigs, 6 calves. Fees received: £72/16/0; 1925, £76 16/-.

It was resolved that Mr. Carter be

informed that he can lease Howatt Square for £5 per annum plus’ rates (£11).

Tenders for painting the slaughterman’s residence were received from A Scott, £lB/16/6; Lynch Bros. £22 5/-. The lowest tender was accepted.
