KUMARA BOROUGH COUNCIL . (Our Own Correspondent.) . The , Kumara Borough £OuhCil- iriet on Wednesday Wetting.' Present: The -'Mayor-, Crs. Benyon, McNabb, McFarlane, Saraty, Evenden, Martyn, Stewart, Burrell. W. A. Johnston, Tasmania, wrote stating that he expected to be investing in a. property in Kumara and,asking; to be supplied with an assessment rollh-Towh Clerk.to reply. < The secretary of the Jubilee Committee wrote asking the Council to arrange for the decoration ot tile town and the Memorial Hall oh the occasion of the Jubilee-.—-Resolved that the Borough undertake the work of . decorating the town. It wae also resolved to erect a flag pole Oh the hall. '■< sji Park- Murdoch, wrote stating the Westland Hospitabßoard had sold the .Old People’s Home tq Mrs. Passmofe, and in order to give her a title, the hospital reserve had been divided into two lots, and the Council’s approval wag required before the plan, could be deposited.—Resolved that the Council

approve of the subdivision. Receiver of Gold Revenue wrote asking that certain rent due on a resi-

dence, site license in Kumara to be treated as irrecoverable.—Resolved that the name of the person who had purchased the property after the decease of its previous owner, be supplied. The Secretary of the School Committee extended a welcome to.. the Mayor and Councillors to attend the official opening of ; trie -new school on Monday, February 1, at 2 p.m. Also suggesting that a half holiday should be proclaimed.—Resolved that the Mayor and as many of the Council

who could make it convenient attend; also that the business people be asked io observe Monday from 2 p.m. The Secretary Fire Brigade wrote asking for usual subsidy.—Referred to Finance Committee. The Grey County Council wrote re Motor Lorry Regulations 1925, and suggesting a conference at an early date iof the purpose of arriving at an agreement with respect to the apportionment of fees etc. —Resolved that as the Kumara Borough was the

most central of the local bodies concerned, it was only fair the conference should be held then. The Town Clerk was requested to reply to that effect. The Town Clerk was requested to communicate with the Military authorities respecting the use of about 20 bell shaped tents to be used for the Jubilee celebrations; also to make enquiries in Grey and Hokitika for the use of flags for decorative purposes. The balance sheets for years 1924 and 1925 were received from the Audit Department without tags, and finally settled. a LOYAL GREYMOUTH LODGE M.U. ■ ' ■' > —— ■ A meeting of the Loyal Greymoutb, M.U. Lodge was held last evening in the Oddfellows’ Hall, a good attendance of members being present. At the summoned meeting the installa-

tion of the newly elected officers was held the ceremonies of the Lodge being impressively carried out by P. G. Bro.: F. Congreve. The officers installed were N. G. Bro. P.. J. McCarthy, P. G. Bro. R. C. Cowan, I.P.M. Bro. L. Green', E.S. Bro. W. A. Clarke, O.G. Bro. A. Warneo. > The Balance Sheet for the year was presented and' showed the Lodge had continued its progress both financially and numerically Advice was received from District Secretary that annual district conference would be opened at Greymputh on Tuesday, February 9, and order paper was enclosed. Bros. P. J. McCarthy, T. H. Collins and F. Congreve were elected delegates to represent the Greymouth Lodge at the conference. The Social Committee of the Lodge decided to entertain the visiting delegates at a smoke concert on the evening of the conference. i Sick pay was passed to three Brethren on the sick list. Two members were initiated into the order during the evening with usual ceremony, P.G. Bro. W. Flaherty and Bro. J. Laing acting as conductors. , ' ' '•
