TRADE PICNIC

A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING Though weather conditions yesterday morning did not look promising for a fine day, the weather soon cleared, making glad those who had joined the picnic train to Lake Mahinapua, which wets reached at 11.30 a.m., when a start was made to “boil the billy” and get on with the mid-day meal. Large numbers made for the Lake, and indulged in a “dip,” whilst the more staid were content to look out “posi’s” under the shade of

the trees. The committee, led by Messrs R. Barrowman and Leu. Jackson, the secretary, had made full arrangements for the outing, and its entire success is due to their splendid “team work.” A good sports programme was gone through during the afternoon, results being- as follow: — Ma|rried Ladies’ Race (Ist lirize, case K. jam; 2nd Mrs. Grace’s trophy)—Mrs. P. Sharp’s trophy)—Misses Smeaton, McMasters and Curry (a dead heat). A special prize was offered for the best baby under six months, and was awarded to Mrs. Hornby’s baby. The mysterious “Mr. X.” (Mr. R. L. White, Cobden) took some finding, eventually being located by Ronnie Moore. The return journey was begun at 6.15 p.m., Greymou(h being reached about 8 o’clock. The organisers of the picnic desire to thank all those who donated prizes, either by way of cash or trophies, for the day’s sports.
