GIRLS DUPED

A SMAR’U ARREST. Many Sydney girls have been duped by tales of love and promise of marriage into giving jewellery and money to a scoundrel. That is the conclusion that Detec-tive-Sergeants Barclay and Comans have come to after making an arrest in connection with many tales of woe they have heard. According to the police, a young man of ingratiating manner and appealing personality has made quite a haul of jewellery and money from unsuspecting girls.. It is said that he -courted many charming girls, telling each the old, old story that she Was “the only girl in the world.” He seems to have been an expert in the art of love-mak-ing, and a number of girls were so enamoured of his promises that they gave him valuable jewellery, which was immediately pawned. One girl is said to have trusted her “lover” so far that she allowed him to operate on her bank account, and he drew cut every penny. The detectives had scant information to go upon. Detective-Sergeant Barclay was ringing up in a shop for more particulars when he saw a face recognised pass the door. Dropping the receiver, he dashed out. An arrest followed immediately.
