HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNUHz.. (Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, December 12. The Hokitika Borough Couhcip met last evening, Present’: ’ The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry) and, Crs. H. m. Coulson. Jas. King, A. R. Elcock, D. J. Evans, W. Jeffries, 8. F. On, G. Heinz, H. T. Parry, G. 11. Blank.

J. Mclntyre (sexton) wrote resigning t his position, ‘ On the motion o£ Ur Evans it was resolved that theresignation be accepted, and that a letter, of appreciation be sent to Mr Mclntyre. J. Hagar wrote asking for a water connection and complaining of drainage and lack of lighting in Livingstone Street, where he has erected a new residence.. —Cr, Blank suggested that a pipe drain be put in at the place. The. matter of drainage a ncf water connection to be attended to and the other matters be left with the P.W. Committee to repoti. T. Marks wrote asking " for the transfer of the lease of a reserve held by him to. G.. Holley.—Accepted. The Treasurer reported, receipts amounting to £56 6s sd; payments £231" Is lOd; credit £lol’lOd 9d; Cr Loan Account £412 13s 9d. Accounts amounting to £333 4s 8d were passed for payment. - It was recommended that £5 be allowed the Abattoir, staff for extra killing during the Christmas holidays.

The Borough foreman reported on the preparation of, the. tar sealing plant,, eulogising Mr Williams of: Greymo.uth for this assistance. Inspection has been made of the water supply line, several leaks having been attended to, and pipes made for drains, and othej? maintenance work attended to.

The Chairman of the P.W. Committee (Cr. Blank) protested against individual Councillors sending along casual labourers to be employed by the foreman. The .Council, by resolution, had decided the chairinan of the : P.W. Committee was the authority to employ any casual hands. ■’ Or Evans saiji the cases referred to did not come tinder that resolution, the work, the mejt were sent to was the cleaning’ of the town for Christmas.

Cr Blank contended that it referred to all work, and he resented Lhe interference. He (Cr Blank) had put on four extra hands ior the Christmas cleaning. Cr Parry asked Cr Blank if he had referred the question of employing casuals to his committee. Ur Blank replied that there was no necessity to do so. The committee were satisfied., 1 ' . ', The Abattoirs Manager (Mr J. Jarman) reported carcases examined fertile month : —l6 cows, 14 heifers, 71 bullocks, 186 sheep, 5 lambs, 7 pigs, 12 calves. Fees collected £5B 18s Id. Same period last year £64 2s. Cr Jeffries referred to the dilapidated state of the cpttage requiring immediate, attention.

It wa,s. resolved to have tne work attended .to at once.

Cr Eyans asked what was being done about cleaning up the spoil by the grader, It was lying, about the streets. • . ,

There was isomething unfair about it. . .- Cr Coulson explained the arrangeinent made with the Sergeant of Police re parking places.
