(Oar Own Correspondent). HOKITIKA, October 24. The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening’; present. The Mayor (Mr G. Perry), Crs 'D. J. Evans, Jas. King, H. Blank, G. Heinz, F. Orr and A. R. Elcock. Apologies were received for the absence of Crs. Jeffries, Coulson and Paa-ry. The Kumara Goldfields Jubilee Celebrations Committee wrote asking for financial assistance, and inviting the douncil to be represented. —Received, and referred to Finance Committee.' W. McKay and Son wrote asking for improvemeJrit of the footpath under their verandah in Tancred Street. — Received/" and matter to be attended to, . .

The Board of Health wrote expressing satisfaction at the introduction .of a rubbish-clearing system.—Received. The New Zealand Railways Department wrote, stating that the Department considered the charge of 1/3‘ per 100 gallons of water excessive, and asking the. Council to reduce the charge to Is.—Received, and resolved that the Department be informed that the charge made is the uniform one, and deciding to try it for a year. ■ The Railway Engineer wrote, agreeing to spread gravel if the Council provided it. —Received. > t A. Something was necessary, said the doctor. now that' it is decided not to; have a West Coast Court at the Exhibition. It is proposed to have printed an. improved booklet for distribution, also some enlarged photographs of scenery. Canterbury is prepared to show anything in their Court, alte the White Star'people offered to assist. He asked if- the Council would assist to the extent of a thousand copies. Mr Duff supfemented the doctor’s request, stating it was now the only way Westland can be represented at the Exhibition. On the motion of Or Evans, the matter was deferred for consideration till the next meeting. Three-; applications were* received lor the position of working overseer, Mr F; being appointed after a ballot’ was 'taken. -
