HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL (Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, Oct. 10. Richards. The tender of the latter was accepted. At the ordinary meeting, there were present: The Mayor (Mr. G. A. Perry), Crs*. D. J. Evans, H. T. Parry, G. Heinz, Jas. King, F. S. Orr. Apologies were made for the absence of Crs. Jeffries, Elcock, Blank and Coulson. A letter was received from the New Zealand Railways re Weld Street.— Crs. Evans said the crossing was still very .bad.—On the motion of Cr. Evans reported on behalf of the Reserves Committee, recommending that the gardener and sexton keep time cards; that the sexton’s salary be'.£ 14/10/ .per calendar month. The, Abattoir's Manager (Mr. Jarman) reported examined during the month the. .following carcases: 15 cows', 47 64 bullocks, 143 sheep, 7 pigs, 1 calf; condemned: 1 cow. It was resolved to ask the inspector, .to watch the amount of water that flpws down Sewell Street during heavy rain in order to determine the size of pipes required. ’ PLUNKET SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the Plunket Society was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Mesdames Carr (President), Parfitt, Smythe, McLean, Dennehy, O’Brien, Barrett, Mason, Miss Anderson and Nurse Spring- Apologies were received .from Mesdames Cuttie, Seddon, Schaef and Martin, and Misses Shine and Braidwood. Several accounts were passed for payment. A donation of £5 was received from the Grey County Council. It was decided to have a street collection on Saturday, October 24. Nurse Blathwayt will relieve Nurse Spring, who leaves on October'l9, for two months’ holiday. The names of several new subscribers were added to the roll. Nurse Spring reported as follows :— Visits to homes: new cases 15, old cases 94; visits to office: Adults 121, babies 110; Out-Stations, visits to homes, new cases 5, old. cases 24; visits to office: Adults 5, babies 5. MOTOR CYCLE CLUB. The annual meeting of the Greymouth Motor Cycle . Cl u .b was held last evening, when there was a good attendance, r The Annual Report, presented to the meeting, stated that the .cash balance in hand was £37/17/6. Expenses were incurred in bringing Mr. P. Coleman to the Coast to compete at the Speed Sports in March. The fillip,his,presence gave to the gathering, 'fully compensated for the cost of his visit. The sports meeting proved highly .successful, and results fully justified the action of the committee in holding it at Omoto Racecourse. P. Coleman’s achievement in putting up a grass track record of 41 2-5 seconds for 6 furlongs, was most meritorious. This record, and the riding of such well known riders as S. Stratton and others invested the .meeting with much interest and went far to assure the success of future fixtures. During the year interest in the social side of tlie branch was maintained by means of dances,, runs-out and picnics. Two rabbit-shooting expeditions to Kokatahi proved successful, An orchestra has been formed by the members and is doing appreciative work. The Club took an active interest in the Swimming Baths l Carnival Queen movement and was one of four sporting bodies which comprised the Sports’ Queen’s section. .
