At the inquest on Duddles and Sarson, the jury found that Duddles committed suicide by poison when of unsound mind, and that Sarson died of a gunshot wound. An open verdict was returned. ! The discovery was niade at the Shoreditch Public Library of the lead bodies of Thomas Duddles, aged 60, the caretaker, and Edward Sarson, aged 37, his assistant. The former was poisoned and Sarson was shot in the head. Chalked on a bench in buddies’ handwriting was the message: “Had a terrible accident. I have shot Sarson. I am going mad.” Duddles left a note indicating that, he and Sarson were cleaning some ■ rifles, of which Duddles (an ex-bluejacket) had a collection, when one exploded.
