WILSON’S LANE.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Personal appeals to the membe.’s of the Greymouth Borough Council, made on several occasions, having had. no effect, 1 take this method ot bringing lo .general notice the. disgraceful stiite of the thoroughfare connecting Tarapuhi and Albert streets, known .as Wilson’s Lane. For the past ten years, this piuch-used—and abused —street has badly needed aftentioin Strenuous efforts on the, part of .the .residents in 1918 succeeded in persuading the- municipal authorities to place two loads of gravel*thereon, and they .nparently considered that their, duty was nobly done. Two loads of gravel in an ocean of mud! The surface of the lane has never been formed properly, and has never been properly metalled. It is a regularly-used shortcut, both by vehicles and pedestrians, and should be- asphalted. The recant lengthy fine spell was an opportunity to give the la,llc much-needed attention, but nothing was done. Presumably the Councillors are too busy carrying out their pet beautifying schemes to attend to the really neccssaiy works within a stone’s throw of the scene of their interminable debates. The Mayor and Councillors are hereby invited bv the residents of Wilson’s Lane to don their best Sunday boots, mid carry -out a tour of inspection. There is no doubt that such a visit would prove convincing. I am, * etc — ? ’ . . RESIDENT.
