GREY HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Grey Hospital Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present Messrs J. Brislane, E. Ashton, J. Lamberton, W. H. Parfitt, J. P.' Irvine, and J. Greaney. In the absence of Mr. J. W. Hannan Mr. J. P. Irvine was voted to the chair.

The Medical Superintendent reported that the number of patients admitted during the month was 48, discharged 44, died 3, remaining at end of month 31 males, 25 females, total 56. Total in Old People’s Home 40. The Matron of the Grey Hospital reported that Sisters Johnston and. Turner and Nurse Passau had forwarded their resignations, the latter on account of ill health. Probationers F. Forrester, R. O’Neill, D. Stack, have commenced their three months’ trial. Sister A. Arnott commenced as relieving sister on June 10, and is recommended for a further two months’ engagement to permit Sister Weenink to get away for her holiday almost due. Days off for the nursing staff had been resumed. Everything in the Hospital was working entirely satisfactorily.

The Matron of Rewa Maternity . Home reported that since May 28, four patients had been admitted, there had been four births, discharged six patients, remaining at dtde two patients, two babies.

Mr. F. Longshaw, Clerk of Works, at Old People’s Home advised the Board, that good progress was being made with the erection of the new home. Outside work is almost finished and a good deal 'of interior cement work had been done; the work of laying the drains was now in progress.

A progress payment of £ 1500 was applied for by the contractor. The Clerk of Works reported that the advanced position of the building would justify making the payment.— Approved. The Department of Public Health wrote forwarding the Minister’s consent to the proposed loan of £25.000 for additions to the Grey Hospital. The Public Trustee wrote stating that the loan of £25,000 could bo lifted in instalments of £5OOO on prescribed dates from which interest would accrue and be payable whether the instalments are taken on the stipulated dates or otherwise.

Thg proposed arrangement by the Public Trustee, giving an advantage to the-Hospital by way of saving interest, as against taking the whole loan in one time (and placing the portion not required, on fixed deposit at the Bank) was adopted. On the recommendation of the Visiting Committee it was decided to purchase an invalid chair, which was offered to the Matron at £lO. It was decided to forward a letter to Dr. Moore, Medical Superintendent, expressing regret at his illness and wishing him a speedy recovery.
