BULLER NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.)

WESTPORT, June 24. A card tournament on behalf of the Seddon Shield Recovery Fund, was held in St. Canice’s Hall last evening, and was well attended. Euchre prizewinners were Mesdames Mears and Wheatley and Messrs H. Hale and J. Radford, while Mrs Collins won the 45’s competition. Mr Croy, in the Railway service, is under orders of transfer to Christ- , church. Mr Croy is tho leader of Croy’s orchestra, which has played at most of the dances and balls in the town for some years past, and liis removal to Christchurch will be a# distinct loss to musical and dance circles.

The Buller Progress League, under the new President, is a healthy institution, with an ever increasing attendance at its meetings. Last evening it had a large number of responses to invitations to send delegates to Wellington on the coastal road and Buller Gorge railway. Various matters of public interest were discussed, including the question of more time / being afforded visiting tourists to explore the beauties of this district. A committee was also appointed to interview the Manager of the Harbour with a view to having important matters attended to. The Anchor ‘Shipping Company sent £5 to the League as a donation, and was accorded a vote of thanks. Mr. J. Simpson, of North Beach, Karamea, has over 60 lambs so far this season from a small flock of ewes. The first lamb was born on May 18, 1925.
